Meeting application requirements: Exterior walls/roofs must be bent 180° without cracking, while interior putty must be bent 90° without cracking. Testing can help prevent incorrect application.

Formula verification: After adjusting the latex and adding anti-cracking additives, testing can confirm the new formula's compliance and prevent batch quality issues.


. Two Laboratory Test Methods (Simplified Procedures)

1. Bending Method (Visual Evaluation)

Test Block Preparation: Pour the mixture of cement: sand: latex powder at a ratio of 1:3:0.04 (water-cement ratio of 0.5) into a 40mm x 40mm x 160mm test mold. Curing at 20±2°C (72°F) and humidity ≥ 90% for 7 days.

Test Procedure: Wipe the test block dry and place it on a test stand (with 100mm spacing between support points). Bend the block to the specified angle using a press at a speed of 5mm/min.

Evaluation: Bend 180° for exterior walls and 90° for interiors. A test block is considered acceptable if there are no cracks or breaks.

2. Flexural/Compressive Strength Ratio Method (Quantifying Flexibility)

Measure the flexural and compressive strengths of a 40mm×40mm×160mm test block and calculate the ratio (a larger ratio indicates better flexibility).

Standard: Latex-to-powder ratio for exterior walls ≥ 0.25, ≥ 0.2 for interior applications. A lower ratio will result in brittle mortar.

Accurate Dosage: Weigh according to the project mix ratio using a 0.001g precision balance to prevent insufficient elasticity or decreased strength.

Sufficient Curing Time: Standard curing time is 7 days (14 days for special scenarios). Curing less than this may result in an "inflated" result, while curing over this period may lead to brittleness.

Temperature Compliance: Test environment: 23±2°C. Low temperatures can lead to false failures, while high temperatures can lead to false acceptances.

Test Block Specifications: Apply release agent to the test block and stir to vent air to prevent breakage or bubbles that could affect the results.

A building materials factory supplied latex powder without testing its flexibility. The exterior wall mortar cracked due to a drop in temperature, leading to a million-yuan claim from the owner.
